Recapping the 2024 Education Celebration Gala

Celebrating $500,000 awarded!

Over 200 people gathered in the GE Theater at Proctors on April 11, 2024 for the SCSDEF Annual Education Celebration. It was a joyous event devoted to paying tribute to people who devote themselves to helping Schenectady City School District teachers teach and students learn. Attendees enjoyed the music provided by the Schenectady High School music students and feasted on the food provided by Schenectady Culinary Arts students.

The foundation recognized the 32 grant recipients who received over $67,000 in grants this year.  This was a landmark year with the foundation having handed out over 600 grants worth over $500,000 since 2004. Crystal Apple awards were also presented. Colleen Keough received The Teacher of the Year award and Thomas Isabella received The Outstanding Graduate Award.  The Community Partner Award was given to the My Brother’s Keeper Volunteers.

This annual celebration has become a beacon of hope and encouragement for current and future educators and students alike. It underscores the importance of community support in shaping the educational landscape in Schenectady and highlights how collective efforts can lead to substantial progress in education.

Attendees were able to visit with one another enjoying good company and having the pleasure that comes with sharing in the accomplishments of others. The Education Celebration not only celebrates past achievements but also inspires the community to continue striving for educational excellence. The anticipation for next year's celebration is not just about looking forward to another event, but is a reflection of the community's ongoing commitment to enriching the lives of its members through education.
