Our mission is simple: provide funding for the enhancement of learning opportunities not otherwise available to the students in Schenectady Public Schools.

About the foundation
The SCSDEF was established when community members became aware of a need for additional funding that would support enrichment projects outside of the normal curriculum.
Since 2006, grants totaling over $500,000 have been awarded for a multitude of projects: a green house, musical instruments, technology, field trips and more.
What We support
We provide academic opportunities such as:
Enhancing visual & performing arts opportunities that enrich school course offerings.
Creating projects and programs that allow students to understand and utilize state-of-the-art advancements in STEM.
Continuing to support teachers to develop innovative instructional experiences supporting a rigorous curriculum at all levels.
Reaching out to professionals to inspire students to find their passion. These professionals include authors, artists, musicians, philosophers, scientists, and athletes to name a few. These professional’s goals are to increase student’s love of learning and help students at all grade levels to realize the value of learning.
Providing greater opportunities for students to participate in performing arts and developmental programs requiring the use of resources that are not usually funded by the school.
Allowing students to engage in activities that promote learning about their communities and engaging students in opportunities to improve their communities.
Encouraging students to engage in activities that provide them with the skills and values needed to live healthy lives.
Supporting students in their efforts to develop literacy and communication skills and to appreciate the value of those skills for leading richer lives.
Assisting students in developing the skills needed to explore career opportunities now and in the future.
