A Night to Remember: Recapping the 2025 Education Celebration Gala

On April 8th, the GE Theatre at Proctors buzzed with excitement and pride for the 2025 Education Celebration Gala. The evening brought together educators, students, and community supporters to honor achievements, build connections, and share in the joy of public education.

Accompanied with music from Schenectady High School students, educators, administrators, legislators, board members and community members celebrated education and reflected on the impact of the Schenectady City School District community. The evening kicked off with a slideshow from teacher and board member, Michael Sheridan, showcasing programs funded by the SCSDEF in 2025.

 

Next, the 2025 Crystal Award Winners were acknowledged and honored:

Teacher of the Year, Pam Eighmie

Teacher of the Year, Pam Eighmie has dedicated 21 years to Schenectady High School, where her teaching legacy reflects the relationships, knowledge, and kindness that thrive within the community. Pam shared her gratitude, acknowledging the students, colleagues, and families who have shaped her into the teacher she is today.

 

Community Partner, Hamilton Hill Arts Center

Community Partner Award went to the Hamilton Hill Arts Center, a vital organization enriching the Capital Region through the preservation and celebration of African Diasporic arts and culture. Their commitment to inspiring creativity and cultural appreciation has made a lasting impact on the district and beyond.

 

Outstanding Graduate, Julia Holcomb

Outstanding Graduate, Julia Holcomb is a lifelong Goose Hill resident with an extraordinary story of commitment and service. From earning her BA and MA degrees to serving as a United States Air Force Major, Julia's career includes her time as a Social Studies teacher at Schenectady High School, where she influenced countless lives through teaching, cultural exchange programs, and community involvement. Even in retirement, Julia continues to inspire as a substitute teacher, volunteer, and globe-trotter.

The SCSD Culinary Program provided a feast of flavors, showcasing the incredible talent of students under the leadership of Director Laura Macey. With her retirement on the horizon, the event was the perfect opportunity to thank Laura for her years of dedication and contributions to the program's success.
